Everyone knows my obsession with cutting down a Christmas tree. Yes, I've crossed state lines to cut down a tree several times. We used to cut down trees with friends, but we stopped that once we realized everyone moved away once they cut down a tree with us . . . yes, we are talking to you Nagle family and Welsh family! Now, ironically, we were the ones who had moved. Moving up North, I was afraid I would not be able to get my tree of choice . . . the Virginia Pine. I as prepared to drive to Virginia if necessary. Greg, the diligent husband that he is, did some internet research, and found a lovely place for us to cut our tree. So, we scooped up the girls (they were at St. Pius practicing for the Christmas program), and headed to
Applewood Farm, on the Maryland-Pennsylvania boarder. As we drove, we passed several tree farms, but we stayed the course.
After a stop for lunch, we finally arrived. The tree farm was very cute, with trains, a shop, games, and a playground. We saw some pre-cut trees, but we were there to cut our own. So, we loaded into the hay wagon and went to cut our tree. Sadly, the trees were a minimum of 50 feet tall, and none of them were the kind of tree I wanted. Plus, I was pretty sure they were not going to fit in our house. We headed back to the pre-cut trees, where I learned from the worker that the trees were not from Applewood Farm, but another farm that we had passed on our way to Applewood. With that knowledge, we packed up the family and headed back to St. Pius, where we had been at the start of our day, and bought a pre-cut tree from them. At least we knew the purchase of our tree went to support the youth group!
